Maggie Cross – Australian Visual Artist and educator

After completing a 5 year Painting Diploma Course in Sydney and a Diploma of Education I went on to teach Visual Arts to secondary students within the Department of Education for 27 years.

Since retiring from the Education department I have run Visual Arts courses through Adult Community Colleges as well as running workshops in Lismore and Ballina. I have also run workshops in Brisbane at The Half Dozen Group of Artists, Kangaroo Point Art Group and at the Australian Active Artists.

I have exhibited in a number of group exhibitions in Ballina and Brisbane along with a solo exhibition at the Martins Gallery Brisbane and 2 solo exhibitions in Ballina. I have been a finalist in the National Northern Rivers Portrait Prize at the Lismore Regional Art gallery as well as acceptance in the Border Art Prize at the Tweed Regional Art gallery for a number of years.

I have been a finalist in the Hornsby Art Awards and Gallery 7 Art Awards, Byron Bay and was Artist in Residence at the Tweed Regional Gallery, Murwillumbah in November 2018

Her Works on Canvas, in both oils and acrylics vary in size and subject matter. She uses varying styles to portray the Australian landscape and seascapes. Other subject matters include still life and portraits. She currently is working with charcoal on linen.

Works on Paper include series in charcoal, pen and ink / coloured wash as well as pastels and mixed media.

Other Works include tromp l’oeil and painting on trays.

Maggie has done a number of commissions and her work is represented in Australia and overseas.
